Why did radical followers of the ayatollah?

If you're asking why the followers of Ayatollah Khomeini overrun the U. S. Embassy and take Americans hostages, it was to protest against the Shah of Iran for going into the U. S. for medical treatment. The U. S. was also spying on Iran from inside of the Embassy.
