Although the 1800's saw the path to more rights for slaves and more action on the subject, rebellions and etc, there were still many slaves and little rights for them. Right before the Civil war, few northern colonies still had slaves, and when it did start, slavery was abolished. This didn't stop discrimination and a lack of rights on African Americans, however. It only got worse in the mid 1800's. when the Ku Klux Klan started to raid African Americans. Life was rash and hard, and nothing was going well. By the end of the 1800's, most African Americans started to move north to Canada at the brink of the first World War.
