    The Answer would be A. : It happened despite being in the middle of a civil war.

    Because Abraham Lincoln was already the president running for his second term, so it would be impossible for it to be the first election featuring a republican candidate. Also the house can not decide the winner, it is decided by popular votes and electoral votes. And Lastly a election did not have a vote to abolish slavery. So A would be the only true option on this list.
