Prior to the Industrial Revolution, which began inBritain in the late 1700s, manufacturing was often done in people's homes, using hand tools or basic machines. Industrialization marked a shift to powered, special-purpose machinery, factories and mass production.

Before the industrial revolution, labor was powered mainly by hand, and many people lived on small farms

However, after the industrial revolution, labor was instead powered by machines that made everything easier, and many people worked in factories instead of on farms. The work conditions in these factories were dangerous, and the work hours were long, while people got paid little, so many people didn't have a good place to live.
