King John was unpopular because he refused to fight England's enemies in France. This was just one of the reasons that made King John unpopular. He lost control over the lands owned by the British in France. Another reason for King John to become unpopular was his policy of charging the people of England with high taxes for continuing the war around the world. This high taxation made King John the most unpopular among the English Kings. He also murdered his nephew and that did not go down well with the people of England. King John also had a big difference of opinion with the Pope and this made him more unpopular.
