Because of the exuberant, freewheeling popular culture of the decade. The Roaring Twenties was a time when many people defied Prohibition, indulged in new styles of dancing and dressing, and rejected many traditional moral standards.

It was called the roaring twenties because of the culture during that time. Many people defied Prohibition, participated in new dances and dressing styles, and rejected many traditional moral standards. Jazz and Flappers were really big during this time. This was the time period when everyone was going against the traditional culture.
