    In his famous "Letter from Birmingham Jail," Marin Luther King outlined his notion that people had a responsibility to defy the law and take immediate and direct action against immoral and unjust laws, especially when those laws were racist. King's letter served, ultimately, to explain the notion of non-violent resistance to laws and rules which were unjust.
