Why did washington want to remain neutral in foreign conflict

    The US wanted to support France but didn't want to fight Britain bc we were too weak to fight.

    George Washington thought that if his country supported one side, the costs and risks of the war would be too much. If they stayed neutral then the war would not affect them in any way (economic crisis, inflation, etc.)
