After World War 2 there was a resurgence of divisions that existed between the two nations before whereby; the expansion of Soviets to Eastern Europe after the defeat of Germany worried the U. S considering the fact that the U. S had established virtual political and economic primacies in Western Europe.

The two countries further promoted two opposite political and economic ideologies in which they competed for an international influence of these ideologies.
