Why is the period between the end of the American revolution and the constitution convection sometimes known as the critical period?

    During the 1780s, many thought that the country was experiencing a crisis of leadership, and in 1787 John Quincy Adams echoed these statements when he said that the country is being in the middle of a "critical period"
