Hiram Revels is the first African American in the US Senate. Democrats had based their arguments on 1857 Dred Scott Decision. on 25th of February 1870, Republicans were voting in favor for him a vote of 48 to 8 against Democrats to seat on the US Senate.

Hiram Revels is the first African American in the US Senate. Their were oppositions before he was proclaimed. Democrats based their arguments on 1857 Dred Scott Decision. However, on 25th of February 1870, Republicans were voting in favor for him (a vote of 48 to 8 against Democrats) to seat on the US Senate.
