Explanation:

Upon the colonization of the newly found lands, settlers decided to continue with their old professions which they had practiced in their native countries. Pursuit for the search and availability of cultivatable lands with rural settlements lured these farmers to the rural areas.

Furthermore, some settlers choose not to go deep into the interior of the lands that has just been discovered and decided to settle on the frontiers of such land. A small amount of the settlers who were professionals in professions like tailoring, cobbling, smithy, etc shifted to towns and villages in search of opportunities to earn.
