In Redman (Chpt 5: 68-80), he states that early settlers to the Polynesian Islands tried to reproduce their intensive farming practices from their homeland (New Guinea) to these islands. He called this process "transported landscapes". What was the environmental impact of this decision to bring their old agricultural systems to a new environment? a. The farmers introduced a number of new species, such as pigs and rats, onto these islands and they greatly improved the health of the existing forestsb. The settlers on these islands were unable to successfully farm on these new islands and so human populations collapse and the islands were immediately abandonedc. The intensive farming systems involved extensive cutting and burning of forests, and this lead to severe deforestation and extensive erosiond. All of the above
