In the United States incarceration is one of the main forms of punishment, but also of rehabilitation, for the ones that committed felony. The US has also the largest prison population in the world. The majority of inmates are formed by adults (more than six million adults); while, in 2013, there were about fifty-four thousand juveniles in detention and it is still more than any country in the world. In the same year, black males are part of 37% of the total male prison population; as for females, white females' account 49% of it.
