Why did the government of Iran have difficulty preventing information from getting out of the country during the 2009 election protests

    The authoritarian regime of the Iranian clergy censors the press and has close control of the flows of information. Even though, news about protests in 2009 spread through social media and the use of cell phones. Even in such undemocratic regimes, it is very difficult to have absolute control because of the internet and new technologies.
