    Algonquin people conflicted with Dutch settlers when Willem Kieft declared war against them, to gain control over the tribe. The war lasted for three years (1643-1645). The war is known as the Kieft's War also as the Algonquin War in New Netherland. The war lost by the Dutch with the settlers forced to abandon their homes, fields, and cattle. This war became one of the first conflicts between settlers and Indians.
