Headright system of land distribution in Georgia:

The head-right system of land distribution in Georgia states that the head of a household could be granted 200 acres of land and an additional 50 acres for every other person in the household. As per the this system, the maximum land grant that any household could get was 1000 acres.

The system was used to attract new settlers and to address the problem of labor shortage. For Georgia, this system of land grant was the best solution to build a buffer zone against the hostile Creek and Cherokee Indians.
