    In practice, what happens is the exploitation of the colony's natural resources for the benefit of the colonizing metropolis. As a result, the exploiting population develops economically, while the exploited is annihilated, enslaved, or at best dominated and oppressed to the fullest.

    Normally, colonial activities are those that do not allow the cultural and material development of the colony or, where they allow it, are only restricted.

    On the other hand, colonial domination is accompanied by a legitimizing ideology; in the age of the "Discoveries" was the evangelization of indigenous peoples. With neocolonialism, the discourse of leading to "Civilization" and "Progress" becomes the most widely used excuse for admitting the exploitation of other people's wealth.
