In the Presidential Election of 1800, the two people who were in the lead were Aaron Burr and Thomas Jefferson. The votes were tied, but one man, who was supposed to vote, had not done it yet. That man was Alexander Hamilton. Because of his son's recent death, Alexander was too sad, his mind was in a completely different world. But everyone wanted to hear his voice and what he had to say. Hamilton thought that Burr had no real idea of what he wanted to do as president, while Thomas Jefferson, his enemy, had many beliefs about what he wanted to do. Aaron Burr was just popular. Even though Burr was his friend, Alex voted for Jefferson. Aaron Burr was okay with that, because there was a law at that time that said that whoever got second place in an election, would get to be vice president. Aaron Burr shrugged the loss off, and told Jefferson that he would be a good Vice President for the country. Thomas Jefferson just laughed at him. He said that he is not ok with him being the vice president. Jefferson told him that he could change that law because he was the new president. That would not happen today. Burr was Angry at Alexander. He demanded an apology from him, but Hamilton stood by his words. The two decided to have a duel, because that was how you would solve problems back in that time. They went to a dueling ground that was in same place that his son had died before him. During the duel, Hamilton did the same thing that he told his son to do when he was in a duel. The very same thing that got his son killed. Alex did not want the blood on his hands, so instead of shooting Burr, he shot at the sky. Burr, full of anger, shot Alexander between the ribs.
