The siege of Yorktown, or the Battle of Yorktown, forced the British to surrender, ending the Revolutionary War.

The battle ended on October 19, 1781. A combined force of the Continental Army, led by Washington, and French troops, led by the Comte de Rochambeau, faced a British Army led by Lieutenant General Charles Cornwallis. His defeat, surrender and capture prompted the British government to negotiate an end to the conflict.
