The result of the Second Anglo-Powhatan War in 1644 can best be described as ending any chance of assimilating the native peoples into Virginia society. The second Anglo-Powhatan War began on March 18, 1644. It was started by the remnants of the Powhatan Confederacy, still under Opechancanough, with the aim of dislodging the English settlers of the Virginia Colony.
