President James Garfield, which was only 6 months in power due to his assassination, was successful at eradicating corruption int he US Post Office and reinforcing the US Navy.

Chester Arthur, in his condition of being vice president, succeeded James Garfield after his assassination. He engaged in the restructuring of the civil service (Employment system that applied to those citizens working for the government) and continued with Garfield's project of empowering the US Navy. he also signed the Chinese exclusion act that denied citizenship to the Chinese and banned immigration until 1943.

Stephen Cleveland's views were conservative. He supported businessmen and opposed the rise of tariffs. He was very cautious regarding government spending. However, this position would ultimately backfire as the country went through a national depression in 1893, which he could not overturn.
