Why did some of the people of American descent who were living in Hawaii in the late 1800s want the United States to annex the territory.

    Explanation: Hawaiian goods and services exported to the mainland would not be subject to United States tariffs, and would benefit from domestic bounties, if Hawaii was part of the United States.
