    Taliban refers to the group of ultraconservative military and political organization in Afghanistan. They called themselves the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. Taliban rose to power in 1994 after the end of the Soviet-Afghan War and Civil War in Afghanistan. Between 1996 and 2001 they controlled almost three-quarters of Pakistan and imposed their rule on the strict interpretation of Sharia according to which harsh punishment was imposed for petty crimes and female education is forbidden.
