to stop the spread of the plague

    They seperated people who had the plague, they tried to kill rats and clean up areas where rats could live. They tried to keep food away from where rats or fleas could get it. Some people believed it was spread by air, and therefore burned incense. Some towns thought sound could cure it and rang church bells or fired cannons. There we people spells and such that supposedly cured people of the plague. The most succesful were towns like Milan who walled up any house that had the plague, along with every person, living or healthy, inside it. Venice made any ships go to an island instead of Venice itself. Pope Clement VI had two fires burn as he sat between them to breathe pure air. The plague actually was killed by heat, so this method did work.
