the main goal of the free soil party was to prohibit the expansion of slavery especically into the outhwestern territoiries acquired from the meixco.

Its main purpose was to resist the expansion of slavery into the Western territories. This was based on the belief that free men on free soil constituted a morally and economically greater system to slavery.
