Soil fertility is lowered by agriculture. It lowers fertility by removing soil nutrients incorporated in the harvested crops. Cultivation, especially with heavy machinery, can degrade soil structure. Exposure of soils to wind and rain during cultivation encourages erosion of the fertile surface.
