1 - Many feared that immigrants who would work for low pay would end up taking their jobs.

2-Many claimed that immigrants who didn't speak English could never adapt to the American way of life

    Explanation:

The 1800's inmigration had a particular issue with a race in specific, the Chinese, they were coming from Asia to America to look for more opportunities (social, occupational, etc.).

Due to the important cultural, language and religious differences, the relationship between the immigrants and the locals were not good at all.

The fact that the inmigrants were there for working purposes mainly, started to generate unsatisfaction, since they were interested in making different duties, for a cheaper fee (due the necessity and ignorance of how the work should be rewarded in the new land) compared to the locals.

A lot of immigrants started to be hired, instead of Americans, since with a payment for a regular white person, the employer could pay around three Chinese to make the same labor. This situation in specific was fundamental to start the inmigrant restriction.

The American started to use any kind of argument to restrict the entrance of Asian newcomers, one of those arguments were the huge cultural and language differences, the communication was really difficult in the first years, so the fact that the average Chinese had serious difficulties learning English, make them think, that they couldn't adapt at all to America.
