Social organization in which Khmer is one of them is a way of classifying people according to hierarchy. In Khmer's, people are given titles before their name. For example, A Khmer may establish a fictive child-parent or sibling relationship called thoa which roughly translating as adoptive parent or sibling.

This Khmer has a great influence on the ancient indian in the sense that, the indians also offer respect to others according to the Khmer's hierarchy. Thee older the citizens, the higher the respect the are offered with most being in form of Namastesi - a situation whereby the young people bow down to touch the feet of the elderly before touching his chest and offer greetings.
