How were economic cometition and imperialism cause of world war 1?

Imperialism was a large cause because of the Austro-Hungarian Empire having Serbia in their empire. Serbian rebels killed an Archduke of the Empire sparking a war. Economy was also a large part because many nations wanted to cripple opposing nations economies so that their own could boom.
