Do you think President Roosevelt honored the Montevideo agreement when he supported Batista's revolt in Cuba? Why or why not? Provide examples to support your choice.

    The United States did not support the overthrow of Cuba's Batista due to the fear of a more radical Fidel Castro. The US and President Roosevelt at the time also had fears American businesses in Cuba could be shutdown thereby reducing its trade and influence in the region.

    President Roosevelt during his presidency actually honored the Montevideo agreement due to the abstinence of US troops on Cuban soil in the initial uprising. The US viewed the conflict and revolution as an internal struggle of the people and only offer advise to Batista in the initial stages before his overthrow.

    The US attitude to the new government in Havana was hostile which leg to the bay of pigs invasion during the JFK tenure.
