The correct answer is Tom Brokaw. He was awarded the "Horatio Alger Award" for overcoming adversity to achieve success through the American free enterprise system. Brokaw is the only person to have hosted all three mayor NBC Programs (The Today Show, NBC Nightly News and Meet the Press). He is also considered as one of the "Big Three" news anchors in the US from the 1980s up till the early years of the 2000s.
