    Explanation: The group of Muslim horsemen which conquered much of North Africa and Spain in the mid-8th century are the Moors. The Moors were a nomadic people. They invaded Spain in 711 taking their Muslim religiion and culture with them. They established a Caliphate in Cordoba, southern Spain. They tried to spread to France but they were defeated by Charles Martel.
