I think the Spanish were the first to "find" or, in other words report on the Aztecs. I believe it was around the year 1500 that Spanish explorers first found Aztecs, and witnessed their lifestyle. They also made notes on their religious beliefs, such as human sacrifices and so forth. That's all I know haha!
