    The correct answer is D. Mexico. Mexico considered Texas a part of its territory and opposed the unilateral annexation in 1845, which led to the Mexican-American war from 1846 to 1848. Texas had already had a history of segregation from Mexico - the so-called Texas revolution in 1835-1836.
