To start off, John Winthrop served as the first official governor of Massachusetts. He was a part of the Massachusetts Bay Company who got a charter to make a colony in New England. John Winthrop became a part of this company because he sold his property and promised that his family would go to the United States of America if the government company would also immigrate to the said country.
