    Constantinople

    Explanation:

Constantinople was the capital city of the Byzantine Empire. The city was very large, economically very strong, and politically very powerful. The main reason as to why this city was such a stronghold in every department was its excellent location, connecting the European and Asian continents.

Because Constantinople was located on the Bosphorus, it had a detrimental rule when it came to trade between the two continents. The majority of the goods from Asia were going through this city and than distributed all across Europe, and the same was done with the goods coming from Europe and toward Asia.

Having the majority of the trade between the two continents pass through it, was well used by the Byzantine Empire, and they managed to gain enormous amounts of wealth from it over the course of several centuries.
