The methods that the colonists used to rebel against the British were a mixture of both political, diplomatic, and military tactics. The colonists issued political statements such as the Declaration of Independence to gain support and to formally declare their goals. In addition they worked to gain international support for their revolution such as working with the French to gain military support for the revolution. Militarily the colonists used a variety of tactics including formal battlefield tactics of the time as well as asymmetrical guerrilla warfare style tactics as well.
