Why are the seasons in North and South America reversed?

    It is summer in June in the northern hemisphere because the sun's rays reach that part of the Earth more directly than at other times of the year. It is winter in December in the northern hemisphere, because that is the time when the South Pole turns to lean towards the Sun.
