    D. William the Conqueror defeated King Harold and established Norman rule over England.

    1066 is when William the Conqueror (the french duke of Normandy) first began the Norman conquest of England. It was at the Battle of Hastings that he defeated The Anglo-Saxon King Harold II. William the Conqueror would then be the first Norman King of England.
