    A. the Dawes Act of 1887

The act of Congress that forced the Five Tribes to accept individual land allotment was the Dawes Act of 1887, adopted also in 1887. The Act authorized the President of the US to survey American Indian tribal land and cut it into allotments for individual Indians. United States citizenship was granted to those who accepted allotments and lived away from the tribe.
