During the decade of 1920 Greenwod was an economically prosperous black community located on the north side of Tusla, OK. During that time the city's population rounded the 72,000 inhabitants. Most of the African Americans had congregated in the area of Greenwood, where they stablished their businesses. Mainly because at that time the segregation policy would not provide them with many options for economic growth. The community was so prosperous that it was known as "The Black Wall Street".
