The Battle of Bennington took place on August 16, 1777. A group of General Burgoyne's army, led by Friedrich Baum, was sent over there to take supplies. It was composed of around 700 men.

Upon their arrival, they were taken by surprise by a group of around 2000 militiamen from New Hampshire and Massachusetts led by General John Stark. They were also supported by Vermont locals led by Seth Warner.
