The Republic of Texas Constitution recognized owner-occupied properties and protected them from forced sale under most circumstances. What are these owner-occupied properties called?

Homesteads in the states allowed the property owners to declare a limited piece of property as Homestead which puts it off-limits to creditors. These laws protect the properties from forced sales and homelessness. The Texas homestead laws existed even before it became a part of the union and is encoded into the state constitution. These laws are more staunchly defended by the state courts as compared to the other states. The property must be owned by and individual to be considered a homestead and should have fixed items and must not include movable assets. A Texan is eligible for the homestead protection if he has filed for bankruptcy protection.
