During Augusto Pinochet's rule in Chile in the 1970's, people had a very little political freedom. He wanted to clear leftism in Chile, and arrested and tortured thousands of people.

There was also a decrease in the inflation and increase in the economy of Chile, during his rule.

He did not permit any political opposition.
