The Industrial Revolution and imperialism are closely related in quite a few ways. In general terms, it can be accurately said that the Industrial Revolution gave further impetus and even strength to imperialistic activities on the part of European nations: the growth of heavy industry not only called for additional resources to be obtained from world-markets; it also empowered industrializing nations with the force necessary to satisfy growing imperial ambitions and goals.
