Social Security is intended to support individuals as they enter the end of their lives meaning they are no longer physically able to provide for themselves. However, with advances in medicine, today's individuals live healthier and longer lives thereby allowing them to work to an older age. Therefore, some believe Social Security should only be accessed once people are unable to work which would be later in life than it was when the bill was passed in the 1930s.
