An enclosed body of coastal water that is a mixture of salt water and fresh water is called an estuary. The type of water present in the estuaries is known as brackish water. These kind of estuaries are mostly formed in places where the rivers meet the seas. This area is the area of transition between the rivers and the seas and it is mostly driven by the tides that come and go from the seas. During high tides, the sea water rushes in and during the low tides the river water or the water from the estuaries move into the sea. This is a place that is not directly hit the sea or ocean waves and winds and so is protected from the wrath of the seas o oceans during windy conditions.
