Many people felt that the Mexican War was unjustified-that the United States was "beating up" Mexico. Name at least two prominent people who opposed the war.

    The American - Mexican War between 1846 and 1848 started over a border dispute and ended with America gaining half a million square miles of Mexican land.

    It was opposed by many people especially democrats who only saw it as an opportunity to take Mexican land. Some strong opponents of the war were:

    Henry David Thoreau who refused to pay the poll tax and was sent to jail for ding so.

    Abraham Lincoln: was still a congressman at the time and he created the spot resolutions which aimed to find out if the war was justified.
