What was the destination in the Americas of the majority of slaves?

During the Atlantic slave trade, Latin America was the main destination of millions of African people transported from Africa to French, Portuguese, and Spanish colonies. Slavery was a cornerstone of the Spanish Casta system, and its legacy is the presence of large Afro-Latino populations.

In addition to the nearly 50 percent of the total number of enslaved Africans in the United States from these two regions, a considerable number of slaves had their origins on the so-called "Slave Coast," which is now the West African nation of Ghana, as well as neighboring parts of the Windward Coast, now Ivory Coast.
